San Jose police are seeking the public’s help in finding a woman suspected of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of her infant daughter in May. On the morning of May 17, San Jose police were dispatched to the 100 block of North King Road in response to a report that an infant at that address was not breathing. They located the infant, later identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as 2-month-old Nevaeh Salinas Robledo. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died, police said. The cause of death was determined to be accidental “asphyxia due to overlay during bed-sharing,” which could mean the mother rolled over onto the child, according to the medical examiner’s office. A police investigation indicated that the mother, 23-year-old Christina Robledo, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of her daughter’s death and was “therefore unable to care for her child,” police said today. A warrant has been issued for Robledo’s arrest for voluntary manslaughter, and police are hoping the public can help locate her. Ms. Robledo turned herself into Santa Clara County Department of Corrections personnel today, 01/08/09. Investigators have been notifed.
