*Parolee Jimmy Edward Booker Denied Parole for Murderer of Girlfriend

A 63-year-old man in prison for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend in East Palo Alto nearly two decades ago was denied parole for the third time Wednesday, a deputy district attorney said today. Jimmy Edward Booker is serving 16 years to life at California
State Prison in Solano after receiving a second-degree murder conviction for stabbing his girlfriend to death in the parking lot of a convenience store on May 2, 1990, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Booker contested he was blackout drunk at the time of murder, but the jury rejected that claim, according to Wagstaffe. Instead, after a one-week trial he was found guilty of second-degree murder on Jan. 30, 1991, by Judge Clancy Knight, Wagstaffe said. The conviction was reversed, however, by the Court of Appeal due to an error in court, according to Wagstaffe. On June 5, 1993, after a two-week jury trial before Judge Margaret Kemp, Booker’s second-degree murder conviction was reinstated, Wagstaffe said. Booker was then sentenced to 16 years to life in prison. The Board of Parole Hearings two-person panel on Wednesday found Booker to be unsuitable for parole. He was denied parole for another three years, Wagstaffe said.
