*Petaluma Police Arrest 12 Alleged Drunk Drivers During Memorial Day Weekend Checkpoints

Petaluma police netted 12 arrests during two DUI and driver’s license checkpoints conducted in the city on Saturday night and this morning. The first checkpoint took place between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on westbound East Washington Street near Grey Circle, while the second checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of Petaluma Boulevard and Oak Street, according to police. A total of 1,378 vehicles passed through the checkpoints and officers arrested 12 people, including two for DUI, one for driving on a suspended license, and nine for driving without a license, police said. Officers not assigned to the checkpoint also arrested two people for DUI during the time the checkpoints were being conducted, according to police. In addition to the checkpoints, Petaluma police officers will be assigned to DUI patrols during the remainder of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
