The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department today identified 49-year-old Dennis Dempsey Jr. as the victim of a Thursday murder in Windsor.Windsor police arrested Arthur Marquez, 39, of Windsor, on Thursday in connection with the death. Marquez and Dempsey, also of Windsor, had an earlier confrontation around 9 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff’s Capt. Matt McCaffrey said. Windsor police went to the Duncan Drive Apartments at 320 Duncan Drive on a medical assistance call around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Windsor police Sgt. Steve Gordon said. Dempsey was pronounced dead after deputies arrived.The sheriff’s department said today an autopsy revealed Dempsey sustained multiple bruises to his head, torso and extremities, and had a massive abdominal hemorrhage due to a lacerated spleen consistent with blunt force trauma. The official cause of death will be determined upon completion of toxicology tests.Marquez has previous contacts with law enforcement, McCaffrey said. He and Dempsey were acquaintances and the homicide was not drug- or gang-related, McCaffrey said.The sheriff’s department provides police services to Windsor.
