Philly police reveal new details on teen Jamil Wyatt who was chased and killed by 3 gunmen.
Investigators said three masked gunmen chased, shot and killed 16-year-old Jamil Wyatt in Northeast Philadelphia. Officials revealed the latest details on the investigation during a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
Philadelphia police are on the hunt for three gunmen following the execution-style killing of a teenager on Tuesday afternoon.
“Unfortunately, we are here once again to report another senseless murder in the streets of Philadelphia,” said Homicide Unit Commanding Officer Staff Inspector Ernest Ransom during a media briefing at Philadelphia Police Headquarters.
The fatal attack occurred around 4 p.m. in the 1200 block of Van Kirk Street in the city’s Oxford Circle section. The victim, 16-year-old Jamil Wyatt, was walking alone when the incident happened, as captured on surveillance video.
“The victim was walking through the rear driveway of a store by himself when three individuals dressed in all black and wearing masks exited a white 2013 Nissan Sentra,” Ransom explained.
The assailants targeted Wyatt, who attempted to flee.
“They began to chase Mr. Wyatt through the driveway, firing their weapons,” Ransom said.
After Wyatt collapsed in the driveway, the video shows at least two gunmen standing over him, shooting at close range.
“He then falls to the ground, and the shooters continued firing as he lay there,” Ransom noted.
Police recovered approximately 60 spent cartridge casings from the scene, highlighting the intensity of the attack. Officers found Wyatt suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, lying on the ground behind a home on the block. He was rushed to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
“One would believe he was targeted, but we have to look into that as part of our investigation,” Ransom said.
The suspects were last seen fleeing in a white Nissan Sentra with light-tinted windows.
Philadelphia police are now asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating the gunmen.
