$20 Million in Gold Stolen From Air Canada Caught on Camera

Peel Regional Police say all the suspects in the gold heist have been released from custody pending trial.

Canadian police on Thursday said they are investigating the theft of a C$20 million ($14.84 million) cargo of gold and other valuables that was stolen from a holding facility at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The cargo containing gold was reported missing on Monday after arriving on an aircraft early in the evening, Peel Regional Police Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn told a news conference.

Peel Regional Police Press Release Re: Gold Theft

The Peel Regional Police investigation dubbed #Project24Karat was our response to a large-scale cargo theft that occurred on April 17, 2023 at Pearson International Airport. The steadfast dedication of our investigators in tandem with effective collaboration with partner agencies garnered positive outcomes for the investigation.

We have accounted for $10M in stolen cargo, charged or issued warrants for 9 individuals & laid 19 total charges. Our message is clear – we will find those responsible for any criminal behaviour and hold them accountable.

Alleged suspects arrested and charged in connection with this case are listed as:

Amit Jalota, 40, residing in Oakville, Ontario. Jalota faces charges of two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, theft exceeding $5,000, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Ammad Chaudhary, 43, residing in Georgetown, Ontario. Chaudhary has been charged with being an accessory after the fact of an indictable offence.

Ali Raza, 37, from Toronto. Raza, who is a jewellery store owner, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

All individuals allegedly involved in the theft and arrested in Ontario were released on bail.

Police report that arrest warrants have been issued for the following suspects:

Archit Grover, 36, from Brampton. Grover is wanted for theft exceeding $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Peel police also report that he is also wanted in the United States for a firearms trafficking-related offence.

Arsalan Chaudhary, 32, from Mississauga. Chaudhary is wanted for theft exceeding $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
