The Oakland County prosecutor’s office says the Michigan boy Giovanni Jennings death is ONE OF THE WORST CASES of child abuse.

6-Year-Old Boy Giovanni Jennings Allegedly Tortured to Death by Mother and Her Boyfriend.

The Oakland County prosecutor detailed the horrific case of child abuse a 6-year-old Madison Heights boy endured before his death last week.

WARNING: This story contains graphic details of child abuse.

Elaina Jennings and her boyfriend, Daniel Giacchina, are both charged in the murder of 6-year-old Giovanni ‘Chulo’ Jennings.

Prosecutor Karen McDonald said the boy was bruised and cut all over including inside his mouth, a bloated abdomen, and an apparent BB wound.

According to the prosecutor, Chulo was confined in a pen in Giacchina and Jennings’ bedroom. He slept on an 11-inch-by-36-inch wooden slat inside the pen, McDonald said. That pen included restraints to keep him inside and curtains so he could not see out.

The couple watched him with a security camera and, when he misbehaved they punished him.

According to McDonald, alleged misbehaving included trying to drink, trying to urinate, and attempting to escape what the couple called “The Corner.”

McDonald said that one day Chulo was stapled face-first into the corner of the wall by his clothes because he looked out the window.

Giacchina allegedly sent a photo of the boy stapled to the wall with his head wedged in the corner and said he solved the problem of keeping his head in the corner. Giacchina and Jennings both allegedly laughed about this.

“This is one of the worst cases we’ve seen,” McDonald said of the abuse.

Office of Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald Press Release Re: Death of Giovanni Jennings

Prosecutor McDonald alongside Madison Heights Police Department Chief Brent LeMerise held a joint press conference this afternoon announcing Murder and 1st Degree Child Abuse charges against Elaina Rose Jennings and Daniel John Giacchina. These charges are related to the death of 6-year-old Giovanni “Chulo” Jennings, the son of defendant Jennings.

“After spending hundreds of hours carefully sifting through the evidence in this case, what we found can only be described as horrific. Chulo was confined, beaten, and bound to the wall using a staple gun. He was badly injured, but he was not taken for medical treatment because his mother knew that a medical examination would reveal the abuse.

Every child deserves safety and security, not terror and abuse. I commend the diligent work of the Madison Heights Police Department. Together, we will continue to seek justice for Chulo, and will use every resource available to hold those responsible for his death accountable.”
