Sonoma Sheriff Press Release Re: Jeremiah Ortega Arrested for Alleged Animal Abuse
Santa Rosa Man Arrested for Sexual Assault on a Dog.
On April 9, 2025, Crime Scene Detectives arrested 26-year-old Jeremiah Ortega in the 100 block of Bellevue Avenue in Santa Rosa on alleged felony charge of animal cruelty and misdemeanor charges of sexual assault of an animal and two counts of violation of probation. Ortega had been initially arrested on April 3, 2025, for possession of child pornography and was released on April 7 following a court hearing.
During the ongoing child pornography investigation, detectives discovered videos on Ortega’s electronic devices depicting him sexually assaulting a small dog. Detectives identified the dog and the crime scene, leading Sonoma County Animal Services to seize the animal for examination.
Ortega was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility. His bail was initially $27,000 and was increased by $50,000, bringing the total to $77,000. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
