Convicted California Murderer Cesar Hernandez arrested. Hernandez who escaped from Delano custody and allegedly killed a police officer in Mexico, has been arrested in Mexico.
Mexican state police officers report that Hernandez was arrested hiding at a home in east Tijuana, Baja California.
The arrest occurred nine days after the officer, Abigail Esparza Reyes, was killed.
Hernandez escaped CDCR officials at the Delano courthouse in December 2024.

STATE PROSECUTOR GENERAL CONFIRMS DETENTION OF JUSTICE REFUGEE, INVOLVED IN MURDER OF A FESC AGENT AND HIGH IMPACT CRIMES ABROAD FROM WHICH HE WAS RUNNING
TIJUANA, BATA CALIFORNIA APRIL 17, 2025. – In compliance with the instructions of the Prosecutor General of the State Dr. Ma. Elena Andrade Ramirez, to promptly follow investigations to prosecute those responsible for the commission of criminal facts and alter the order, the Prosecution in coordination and support of National Defense Agents, reports and confirms that this day, and after a timely follow-up the detention of the fugitive Caesar “N” was carried out.
This individual is being investigated for his alleged involvement in events related to the crime of homicide, both in the city of Tijuana and in the United States; criminal who had challenged both countries by being a fugitive from justice, so this is a priority goal of the Security Desk headed by the Governor of the Marine State of Pilar Avila Olmeda, that since the reprehensible events happened, the state mandate has been aware of the actions for the detention of this subject, since it affects the peace and security of the entity. Therefore, this night it was submitted through an operative called “Gacela”, by the reaction group of the State Prosecutor General’s Office.
The operation was in charge of the Commissioner of the State Investigation Agency, who executed it with dozens of Investigative Agents and the support of a defense cell.
The capture was made this April 17 by elements of the State Investigation Agency, in close collaboration with the National Defense Special Operations Group, as part of the joint actions to combat crime and ensure the safety of citizens.
Cesar “N” is currently facing criminal proceedings, and his legal situation will be determined as set out by law.
These actions reflect the outstanding work of intelligence and research carried out by staff of the State Prosecutor General’s Office, whose coordinated efforts, tactical analysis strategies and data collection allowed to accurately locate the detainee today.
