The Independence Police Department has lost three officers in the last three years.

The Independence Police Department has confirmed that one of its officers and a Jackson County Process server have been killed — and two more officers are injured — after a shooting that began during an eviction in northeast Independence.

The Independence Police Department has confirmed the tragic loss of one of its officers and a Jackson County Process server, with two other officers sustaining injuries, following a shooting incident that erupted during an eviction in northeast Independence. The deceased victims have been identified as Officer Cody Allen and Drexel Mack, a Civil Process server.

The two injured officers, whose identities have not been disclosed, are currently receiving medical care, with one sustaining serious injuries. Both are expected to recover.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Mack was serving an eviction notice when gunfire erupted from inside the home. Witnesses immediately called 911 for assistance, reporting that both Mack and Officer Allen had been shot.

Allen tragically lost his life while rendering aid to Mack, with additional officers sustaining injuries as they responded to the scene. Tactical units from various agencies managed to apprehend the suspect, and a thorough search of the property revealed no additional individuals present.

The surviving victims are being treated at Centerpoint Medical Center, while the investigation has been handed over to the Missouri Highway Patrol criminal investigators. The 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County expressed deep sorrow over Mack’s injury, emphasizing the risks faced by public servants while carrying out their duties.
