Batavia, N.Y.— One of the suspects charged in connection with the death of a Genesee County Sheriff’s Office sergeant over the weekend hit him in the face and head with a metal chain, ultimately killing him, according to police.

According to police reports, one of the suspects involved in the incident resulting in the death of a Genesee County Sheriff’s Office sergeant over the weekend allegedly struck him in the face and head with a metal chain, leading to his demise.

The events unfolded when Sgt. Thomas Sanfratello, 54, was tasked with escorting Michael Elmore, 33, and Lyndsey Wilcox, 39, out of Batavia Downs in the early hours of Sunday. Sanfratello, who was working a special detail at the casino, responded to a call to intervene in a fight.

Following protocol, Sanfratello and Batavia Downs security escorted the two individuals out of the establishment. However, Elmore re-entered the premises immediately and initiated an attack on Sanfratello, wielding metal chains and striking the sergeant repeatedly in the face and head. Elmore also used his fists during the assault and placed Sanfratello in a chokehold, causing the sergeant to lose consciousness.
