Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in 77th Division.
On March 7, 2024, around 12:55 p.m., there was a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly
Weapon that occurred in the area of 54th Street and Manhattan Place, where the suspect, later identified as Jose Robles, pointed a handgun at an unidentified victim.
While 77th Division officers were responding to an unrelated radio call in the area of 54th Street and Gramercy Place, they observed Robles walking in Chesterfield Square Park and recognized him as the possible suspect of the Assault with a Deadly Weapon radio call. The officers attempted to stop Robles. As they verbalized with Robles, he did not comply with officers commands to drop the handgun he was holding and pointed it at officers resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Robles was struck by gunfire, dropped the handgun, and fell to the ground.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported Robles to a local hospital, where he was admitted for treatment for his gunshot wounds and is listed in critical condition. No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this incident.
A BB gun weapon (in the appearance of a semi-automatic pistol) with a removable magazine was recovered at the scene.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
