Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum disclosed that three police officers were shot in the line of duty, and one suspect was fatally wounded during an altercation in Atlanta’s Capitol View neighborhood on Saturday evening.
Responding to a call around 5:15 p.m. reporting an armed individual deemed a threat to the community, officers engaged in gunfire upon arrival, resulting in three officers sustaining gunshot wounds. In the exchange, the suspect was fatally shot by police.
Schierbaum identified the injured officers as two 31-year-olds and a 28-year-old, with two of them currently undergoing surgery—one for a shoulder wound and another for a leg injury. The third officer sustained a graze wound.
Expressing concern over the violence, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens emphasized the destructive impact of firearms on communities.
The incident unfolded on Desoto Avenue, where officers confronted an armed individual wielding both a handgun and a knife. A struggle ensued, escalating to gunfire.
