Police say a Waco man Davonta Mathis is responsible for two convenience store clerks’ murders in Pleasant Grove and Mesquite.

On June 20th at approximately 11:05 p.m., the Mesquite Police Department received a 911 call related to a shooting in the 1700 block of W. Bruton Road. The caller advised a male entered a business and began shooting. Officers arrived on scene, and located a male with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The victim was identified as Muhammad Hussain, a 60 year old male from Carrollton.
Video from the business provided detailed information on a suspect vehicle. On June 22nd at approximately 12:56 a.m., a Mesquite Police Officer on routine patrol observed the suspect vehicle. A vehicle pursuit ensued, which concluded with the arrest of the driver.
The driver was identified as Davonta Mathis, a 21 year old male from Waco. Mathis was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, and subsequent investigation revealed Mathis was responsible for the murder of Mr. Hussain. He was charged with Capital Murder in addition to the Evading charge.
