A Logan Square, Chicago homeowner foiled an attempted burglary after hitting an alleged would-be burglar with a frying pan and it was all caught on his home surveillance camera.

A Chicago homeowner thwarted an attempted burglary on Thursday by hitting the alleged intruder with a frying pan.

Dramatic security camera footage captured the altercation, showing Jason Williams chasing the suspect out of his home on the city’s Northwest Side.

“I grabbed the frying pan, and at the same time, the burglar came downstairs,” Williams recounted.

Faced with the intruder, Williams chose to fight. “At this point, it was fight or flight, and I would rather do the fighting,” he said.

Williams was heading home from work, just minutes away, when his alarm system alerted him to a break-in. He rushed home, looked for a weapon, and found a frying pan. As he grabbed it, the burglar came downstairs.

As Chicago police arrived, Williams chased the suspect out of his house and around the yard. Officers eventually apprehended the suspect across the street.

“This could have had a different ending, and I’m glad it had a good one,” Williams said. “My wife’s not happy about the decision I made… probably wouldn’t do it again, but it is what it is.”

Chicago police confirmed a suspect was taken into custody, though it is not yet known if any criminal charges have been filed.
