FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On August 8, 2024, at approximately 4:28 a.m., two LVMPD officers conducted an un-related pedestrian stop near the intersection of East Harmon Avenue and Paradise Road. The officers requested additional resources to the area as one of the pedestrians had fled on foot and was ultimately apprehended by officers.

Officers Jeremy Johnson, Jacobo Solis, Andrew Collins and Dominick Nelson had arrived on scene to assist. As the officers dealt with the individual who had fled, an uninvolved white Nissan pulled up next to the officers in the roadway. The slow approaching vehicle caught the attention of officers who then observed the driver, later identified as 57-year-old Shae Courtroul exit the vehicle.

Officers observed the suspect was armed with a knife and was aggressively advancing towards them. Officers gave the suspect several verbal commands to drop the knife, which he ignored. The suspect then quickly closed the distance between the officers causing them to discharge their duty weapons, striking him. Simultaneously, another officer fired his Electronic Control Device.

Medical personnel responded and transported Courtroul to Sunrise Hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

The investigation of this incident remains ongoing. An examination of this incident is being conducted by the LVMPD Critical Incident Review Team. This review focuses on policy, tactics, and training as it relates to this use of force.
