Oakland Shell Food Mart gas station worker shoots at would-be burglars.
A female store clerk working the overnight shift at an Oakland Shell Food Mart gas station in Oakland’s Fruitvale fired shots after someone repeatedly rammed the food mart before dawn.
An employee at a Shell gas station in Oakland’s Fruitvale District fired shots at a group attempting to ram a car into the store’s food mart, according to police and video footage from the scene.
The station’s manager told KTVU that around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, three Lexuses pulled up to the business at 38th Avenue and International Boulevard. One of the drivers then rammed a vehicle into the store’s entrance. In response, the employee fired at the cars, causing the suspects to flee.
“We have a weapon in the store, so she shot outside, and they got scared, so they left,” said night manager Khaled Mubarz.
No one was injured in the gunfire, police confirmed. Authorities confiscated the store’s Glock 19 as evidence, questioned the employee, and released her.
“It is legally OK to defend yourself, and she was clearly defending herself,” Mubarz added. “If she hadn’t shot, they would have entered the store, likely armed, and possibly hurt her.”
