San Diego police report that an off-duty San Diego Community College District Officer shot and killed a man on Fiesta Island near Mission Bay.
An off-duty officer from the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) Police Department was stabbed multiple times before fatally shooting his attacker on Fiesta Island.

Off-Duty SDCCD Police Officer Shoots Suspect Who Stabbed Him
San Diego – An off-duty officer from the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) Police Department fatally shot a man who stabbed him multiple times.
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at approximately 10:03 a.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a call of a stabbing at Fiesta Island. Officers from Northern Division were dispatched.
Upon arrival, they located two men at the location. One of them had been stabbed. One of them had
been shot.
The male who had been stabbed was identified as an off-duty officer who has worked for SDCCD Police for 25 years. He was rushed to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. His injuries are considered serious, however he is expected to survive. He remains at the hospital receiving medical care.
The male who was shot was identified as a 41-year-old white male. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified, but his name will not be released pending family notification.
The preliminary information gathered is that the off-duty officer arrived at the location with his dogs.
Shortly after he parked, the other male confronted him for unknown reasons. This occurred on the sand between the water and the road on Fiesta Island. The male began stabbing the off-duty officer with a knife. A knife was later located on the sand near the male. The officer pulled out a firearm and shot the male at least one time. The firearm was determined to be the officer’s personal weapon.
San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to respond. While the officer was off-duty at the time of this incident, at this point this is being investigated as an officer-involved-shooting. These investigations are extremely thorough, as is the review process. When Homicide completes its investigation, it will be reviewed by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to determine if the officer bears any criminal liability for his actions.
SDCCD Police Department will conduct an administrative investigation into the officer’s discharge of his firearm. The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney’s Office will also be monitoring the investigation.
