Deputies Trying to Identify Suspect Who Allegedly Tried to Steal Plane From Sonoma County Airport

Deputies say they searched for the suspect with the assistance of a drone, a K-9, and CHP’s helicopter, but they were not able to find him.

Detectives are searching for a man who allegedly tried to steal a private airplane.

On October 13 at approximately 9:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the Sonoma County Airport for a report of a man trying to steal airplanes.

A mechanic was working on a private plane at the airport on Sunday morning. While the plane was running, the suspect opened the plane’s door. The mechanic kicked him away and told him to leave. The suspect ran towards a hangar with multiple private airplanes. He got into the plane in the attached photo and turned on the ignition and several lights. The mechanic yelled at him to get out of the plane. The suspect got out of the plane and ran northbound towards a wooded area.

Deputies searched for the suspect with the assistance of a drone, a K-9, and CHP’s helicopter, but they were not able to find him.
