Vacaville Police Department Press Release Re: Matthew Fraticelli Arrest
This past Tuesday evening, a little after 8:30pm, one of our officers stopped a vehicle after observing it driving erratically and suspected the driver of being DUI.
The initial officer noticed the driver, Matthew Fraticelli (46, Vacaville) appeared nervous and fidgety, and the officer had to repeatedly remind him to keep his hands in view. A records check showed Mr. Fraticelli had a felony, no-bail warrant from the US Marshals service for a firearms offense. Another officer approached the passenger side of Mr. Fraticelli’s car and was able to spy a partially concealed rifle in the backseat area.
Mr. Fraticelli complied with the officers’ commands and was quickly and safely detained.
During their investigation, officers also discovered Mr. Fraticelli’s car matched the description of one involved in a shooting that had just occurred in an neighboring city. Fairfield PD Officers and Detectives had located numerous spent .223 rounds along the 1900 block of Blossom Ave. and a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire.
Mr. Fraticelli was arrested on account of the US Marshals warrant and turned over to Fairfield PD, who also placed him under arrest for charges related to their shooting.
Incidents like these are another reminder as to why officers conduct traffic stops the way they do and sometimes give specific commands to occupants. When individuals comply with commands, they can be safely and quickly detained, even in tense situations like these.
