Salt Lake City Police Officers Cleared in Death of Arrestee Megan Joyce Mohn

Authorities say that Megan Mohn died in a hospital in 2022, nineteen days after she was arrested by police.

Three years after a non-compliant suspect died, Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office is reporting that no charges will be filed against officers in the arrest of Megan Joyce Mohn, who died in 2022. Still, the DA is pushing for more training for police officers.

No charges will be filed against officers who restrained Mohn in 2022, even though her death was ruled a homicide.

But District Attorney Sim Gill says police training procedures need to be revisited.

SLCo DA Declines to File Charges in Death of Megan Mohn

After conducting an Officer Involved Critical Incident (OICI) review, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file criminal charges for the January 11, 2022, arrest of Megan Joyce Mohn by Salt Lake City Police Department, during which she lost consciousness. Ms. Mohn never regained consciousness and passed away in the hospital on January 30, 2022.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, operating pursuant to an agreement with participating law enforcement agencies and consistent with established protocols and applicable laws, conducts independent reviews of officer involved critical incidents, including police officers’ use of deadly force used in the scope of police officers’ official duties.
