UPDATE: Escaped inmate Christopher Bates has surrendered to police.
Gulf Shores Police Department Press Release Re: Escaped Inmate Christopher Bates
On September 13, 2023, at approximately 11:30 AM, an Alabama Department of Corrections inmate left his assigned workplace. Christopher Ivy Bates was last seen in the area of County Road 8. He discarded his inmate clothing and was dressed in only his underwear and a white T-shirt. He may have stolen a bicycle. He is a male, black, 5’4”, 144 lbs, with a neck tattoo and gold teeth.
The Gulf Shores Police Department is assisting the Department of Corrections.
