Suspected killer Alder Alfonso Marin Sotelo escapes Virginia jail.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are working to find two inmates who escaped from Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville, Virginia. Alder Alfonso Marin Sotelo, 26, and Bruce Callahan, 44, escaped Sunday by manipulating a locking mechanism on a rear exit door.

On the morning of May 1, 2023 the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Piedmont Regional Jail staff reporting that they had discovered that they had an inmate missing from their facility. A subsequent report from jail staff indicated that they had discovered that there were two inmates missing following an investigation by jail staff.
Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and initially began an investigation that was later turned over to the FBI and the US Marshals Service upon determining that both escaped inmates were federal detainees with no affiliations to the Prince Edward County area or local charges. Jail staff provided investigators with video surveillance indicating that the first inmate to escape went over the perimeter fence on April 30, 2023 at approximately 1:18 AM, with the second inmate escaping at 11:14 PM.
The two escaped inmates have been identified as Alder Marin-Sotelo, being held at PRJ on federal gun charges and is a person of interest in the murder of a Wake County NC Deputy Sheriff in 2022. The second escaped inmate is identified as Bruce Callahan, whom was being held at PRJ on federal narcotics charges.
The Piedmont Regional Jail (PRJ) is a regional jail authority that is located in Prince Edward County and is responsible for housing offenders from six surrounding jurisdictions and operates independently from all surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Both escapees are still at large.
