Brazoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesus Vargas Shot and Killed Serving Warrant

Police say the suspect was later shot and killed in a dumpster after he shot police K9 Rocky.

Brazoria County Deputy Sheriff Jesus Vargas was shot and killed while serving a warrant at Stella Link Road north of Interstate 610 in Houston at 11:30 a.m.

When Deputy Jesus Vargas and his partner approached the subject, the suspect fired at deputies from his vehicle. Deputy Vargas was transported to the Ben Taub Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

The suspect, Robert Lee Davis, who was a repeat violent offender, fled the scene. When a K9 located the suspect hiding in a dumpster, the suspect fired multiple shots at the K9. A responding officer returned fire, killing the suspect.

The K9 suffered two bullet wounds to the neck and nose and is in stable condition.

Deputy Vargas had served with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office for 17 years.

El alguacil adjunto del condado de Brazoria, Jesús Vargas, fue asesinado a tiros mientras cumplía una orden judicial en Stella Link Road al norte de la Interestatal 610 en Houston a las 11:30 a. m.

Cuando el alguacil Jesús Vargas y su compañero se acercaron al sujeto, el sospechoso disparó contra los agentes desde su vehículo. El alguacil Vargas fue trasladado al Hospital Ben Taub, donde sucumbió a sus heridas.

El sospechoso, Robert Lee Davis, que era un delincuente violento reincidente, huyó de la escena. Cuando un K9 localizó al sospechoso escondido en un contenedor de basura, el sospechoso disparó varias veces al K9. Un oficial que respondió al fuego, matando al sospechoso.

El K9 sufrió dos heridas de bala en el cuello y la nariz y se encuentra en condición estable.

El alguacil adjunto Vargas había trabajado en la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Brazoria durante 17 años.
