Police say the Suspect Tracy Watson was stabbing a man when officers shot and killed him.

Video of an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead, Tracy Watson in the Austin neighborhood last month was released by Chicago’s police oversight agency Tuesday afternoon.

COPA RELEASES VIDEO & OTHER MATERIALS FROM FATAL OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING NEAR 300 S. CICERO AVE

Today, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is releasing video and other materials related
to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred near 300 S. Cicero Avenue. COPA investigators
responded to the scene immediately and commenced an investigation.

On May 27, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an officer-involved shooting.
Preliminary reports indicate that this incident began when two Chicago Police officers were flagged
down and observed a male individual with an unknown weapon attacking the victim in the street. The
officers exited their vehicle and gave verbal commands to the individual to drop their weapon. The
individual failed to comply with the officers’ commands, resulting in both officers discharging their
firearms, striking both the individual and victim. The individual was transported to the hospital and
pronounced deceased. The victim was also transported to the hospital and was listed in critical
condition.

COPA serves as the designated agency for the City of Chicago authorized to release video and other
materials per the Consent Decree and the City’s Video Release Policy. Related to this officer involved

in-car camera (ICC) videos, POD (Police Observation Device) videos, OEMC Transmissions, Shot Spotter
