CHP Oakland Crackdown Recovers 700+ Stolen Cars and Guns

According to the latest report from the governor’s office, the operation, which was announced on February 14, has led to 355 arrests.

Since the beginning of a California Highway Patrol Oakland crackdown earlier this year, over 700 stolen vehicles have been recovered in Oakland and the greater East Bay area, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office announced Wednesday.

According to the latest report from the governor’s office, the operation, which was announced on February 14, has led to 355 arrests. In total, 726 stolen vehicles have been recovered, and 46 firearms linked to crimes have been seized. The suspects arrested are connected to organized crime, carjackings, and other criminal activities, according to Newsom’s office.

As of April 10, there had been 181 arrests, 414 recovered stolen vehicles, and 31 seized firearms reported.

The arrested suspects face charges including possession of stolen property, auto theft, transportation of narcotics, driving under the influence, and felony gun possession. In a written statement, Newsom praised the CHP’s efforts to support local law enforcement in maintaining community safety statewide, particularly in the East Bay.

“The ongoing crime suppression operation in Oakland and the East Bay is a testament to our unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. “By targeting high-crime areas and deploying additional resources, we are working with our law enforcement partners to reduce criminal activity and create safer communities throughout the region.”

The governor’s office stated that the CHP will continue with both undercover operations and uniformed patrols, collaborating closely with local law enforcement agencies.
