Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Crockett, Texas Press Release Re: Clifford Heniser Arrest
On Saturday, March 15, a suspect named Clifford Heniser, a 34-year-old male from the Lovelady area, came to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office lobby at approximately 7 a.m., claiming to be a federal agent and wanting to inspect our records.
A dispatcher told him she would have a deputy en route, as all were out on routine patrol in the county. The suspect left the lobby and returned to his vehicle. After a short time, the suspect returned to the lobby carrying an AR-15 rifle. He again tried to call our dispatchers, who at this time were hiding under their desks and calling for all available help.
The suspect left the lobby, and as soon as he cleared the front awning, he fired approximately 30 rounds in the air.
He then reloaded and walked around the parking lot. A short time later, two Crockett PD officers and a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper arrived and confronted the suspect. He followed the commands of the officers, laid the rifle down, and was arrested. He had a Colt pistol and two magazines in his pockets, and four more rifle magazines and between 300-500 rounds of rifle ammo in his truck.
He was arrested for impersonating an officer, unlawfully carrying a weapon by a felon, criminal trespass, and deadly conduct. The same individual was arrested on Wednesday for disorderly conduct in our office lobby. He is now in custody, and as soon as he is magistrates, he will be transferred to another county for the safety of our staff and the suspect. Crockett PD is working the case, and the ATF and the FBI are assisting.
We appreciate the help of Crockett PD, Crockett Fire Department Officers Jason Frizzell and Chris Jimenez, Texas Highway Patrol, ATF and the FBI. We are fortunate that none of our employees, the responding officers or members of the public were injured.
