Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Press Release Re: Brent Metz Arrest

Juvenile Shot by Property Owner for Trespassing

Jefferson County, CO. – At 4:15 p.m. on September 10, 2024, deputies were dispatched to the 23000 block of Pleasant Park Road after the homeowner called Jeffcom dispatch to report two trespassers on her property. The homeowner also called her boyfriend to report the trespassers.

When deputies arrived, they located two cars on the side of the road on Pleasant Park. As he approached, the deputy could see a juvenile male bleeding heavily from his face, as a second juvenile applied pressure to his friend’s wounds with a t-shirt.

An adult male, identified as Brent Metz (dob 10/30/85) was standing with the two boys. The victim told the deputy that Metz shot him through the windshield of his car, causing the injuries to his face.

Prior to being taken by ambulance to the hospital, the victim told the deputy that he and his friend drove to this property to see if they could use this location to take homecoming pictures. The boys parked at the home’s gate, jumped the fence, and walked up the driveway to speak to the homeowner. No one appeared to be at the residence, so the boys walked around the property trying to locate a homeowner to no avail.

They returned to their car and began writing a note to the homeowner, asking permission to use their property to take pictures. While they were doing this, a man they had never seen before pulled up next to them, exited the truck he was driving, and fired a round through the windshield, striking the 17-year-old driver in the face. The deputy located the weapon used in the shooting inside of Metz’s truck.

Metz was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked into jail for 1st Degree Assault, Felony Menacing (x2), Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, and Reckless Endangerment (x2).

The investigation is ongoing.
