Dallas police release body camera video of shootout with robbery suspect.
DPD says they were called to an illegal gaming room on W. Wheatland Road in the early morning hours of Feb. 11. Body camera video shows police arriving at the shopping center and a man in the area telling officers that they were being robbed.
On February 11, 2024, at 12:37 a.m., Dallas Police swiftly responded to a 911 call reporting a robbery in progress at an illicit game room located at 2984 W. Wheatland Road. Upon arrival, officers tactically approached the rear of the shopping center and observed an open back door, followed by a man emerging who claimed to be a victim of the ongoing robbery.
An officer entered through the open back door and discovered patrons inside the illegal establishment. Meanwhile, suspects attempted to flee through the front door, where additional officers were positioned to intercept them. Among the suspects, 23-year-old Reginald Curry was identified as allegedly fleeing from officers while brandishing a weapon. Ignoring commands to halt, Curry allegedly turned and fired a shot toward the pursuing officers.
As the situation escalated, Curry allegedly continued to evade authorities, discharging his weapon while fleeing eastbound through the parking lot. Responding officers, prioritizing public safety, engaged in a tense exchange of gunfire with the suspect. Ultimately, Curry sought cover behind a nearby business in the 2800 block of West Wheatland.
Despite repeated commands to surrender, Curry allegedly persisted in his armed resistance, prompting officers to return fire. In the ensuing exchange, Curry sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and chest before being apprehended.
Prompt medical assistance was provided on-site, and Curry was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Remarkably, no officers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Multiple firearms were recovered during the incident, including one discarded by Curry during his attempted escape, another found at the scene of the initial robbery, and a third discovered on Curry’s person upon his arrest.
Curry faces imminent charges, including three counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant. The investigation, spearheaded by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit, remains ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges and arrests as the inquiry progresses.
