A Havelock man accused of statutory rape is being extradited back to Pitt County after his arrest in Puerto Rico last week.
Deshawn Keon Oliver, 29, was apprehended on Wednesday, May 8, by special agents from the FBI’s San Juan Field Office.
Greenville detectives charged Oliver in 2023 after DNA evidence revealed he had impregnated a 13-year-old girl with whom he had regular contact.
Oliver was initially extradited back to Pitt County in February 2022 after being found in Glasgow, Kentucky. He posted a $1 million bond the same day and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device while awaiting his arraignment. However, officials discovered in late December 2023 that Oliver had fled the state after removing his electronic monitoring device.
Upon receiving information that Oliver was hiding in Puerto Rico, Greenville Police and the FBI, working with the US Attorney’s Office, secured a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The FBI arrested Oliver in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on May 8, 2024. He will face his original charge of statutory rape of a minor once he is brought back to Pitt County.
