The cartel says that Gerardo and his accomplices were petty criminals that murdered the surfers to steal their vehicle and were not affiliated with the drug cartel.

Gerardo, his girlfriend Ariel Gisel and two other men have been arrested for the murders.

Jesús Gerardo, known as ‘El Kekas’, the main suspect in the crime, appeared before the judge, while his girlfriend, Ariel Gisel, was presented to the court after being arrested with the phone of one of the victims.
