A tense and harrowing moment unfolded, captured on police body camera footage, as an armed man with a criminal record placed a female Fontana officer in a headlock.

In the video, the officer’s partner swiftly intervened, shooting the suspect and enabling them to apprehend him. Despite sustaining injuries, the suspect survived and awaits trial.

The incident occurred on February 9 in Yucaipa. Fontana officers were collaborating with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on a gang operation when they conducted a traffic stop involving the suspect.

Initially, the interaction seemed amicable, with the female officer engaging in conversation while her partner conducted routine checks on the suspect’s information.

Suddenly, chaos erupted as the partner urgently called for assistance, revealing that the suspect had engaged in a physical struggle, restraining the female officer with his arm around her neck.

A subsequent review of the officer’s body-worn camera footage unveiled the moment when the suspect’s demeanor shifted, with the discovery of a concealed firearm prompting the officer to sound the alarm.

“He’s armed!” she exclaimed as the altercation ensued.

Reacting swiftly, the officer rushed to aid his colleague, firing a single shot at the suspect. The footage depicted the suspect writhing in pain on the ground before being subdued and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities later identified the suspect as Alan A. Metka, 56, of Fontana, who was subsequently arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
