A 17-year-old Garfield High School student was pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center.

A Seattle high school student has been shot and killed, and the suspect is still out there.

School is canceled at Garfield High School in Seattle after a 17-year-old was shot and killed. Seattle Police say he was trying to break up a fight between the suspect and another teen when the shooting happened.

Update: 17-Year-Old Student Deceased After Shooting at Garfield High School

UPDATE: 06/06/24 at 6:15 p.m.

Harborview Medical Center has confirmed that despite all lifesaving efforts, the 17-year-old student of today’s shooting at Garfield High School succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Seattle Police detectives are investigating a shooting at Garfield High School this afternoon.

At 12:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of 23rd Avenue South and located a 17-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police provided medical aid until the Seattle Fire Department arrived on scene and continued treatment. The male was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Officers determined that an altercation took place on school grounds prior to the shooting. The high school aged male suspect fled the scene and was not located. Police cordoned off the area until Seattle Police Homicide Detectives arrived.
