Santa Fe Police Department Press Release Re: Giovanni Aniles and Elijah Gallegos Arrest for Kidnapping
Two Arrested Following Kidnapping
Santa Fe, NM – On Saturday, January 27, 2024 at approximately 5:34 PM, Santa Fe Police Officers were dispatched to 1341 Alamo Road in reference to a kidnapping. Officers arrived on the scene and spoke to the reporting party who advised that a male, identified as Giovanni Aniles, 20 years old, of Santa Fe, arrived at her house in a white truck and held her daughter at gunpoint. The reporting party stated that Mr. Aniles demanded that she pay him money that was allegedly owed to him.
Mr. Aniles then physically struck the reporting party’s daughter with the handgun and left the area with her. Santa Fe police officers and detectives searched for Mr. Aniles and a second male involved, identified as Elijah Gallegos, 18 years old, of Santa Fe. Law enforcement later discovered the two males were driving a white Ford F-150 bearing New Mexico registration plate 699SCG.
Later in the day, the victim was located near the Interfaith Shelter and transported to an area hospital to receive medical treatment. Santa Fe Police continued to search for Mr. Aniles and Mr. Gallegos, and an arrest warrant was drafted and signed for both men.
On Sunday, January 28, 2024, at approximately 1:30 PM, the white Ford F-150 was located at a Speedway gas station at 2691 Sawmill Road. Santa Fe police officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop, and after a short foot pursuit, Mr. Aniles and Mr. Gallegos were taken into custody.
Giovanni Aniles was criminally charged with:
• Kidnapping
• Extortion
• Aggravated Battery on a Household Member (2 Counts)
• Aggravated Assault on a Household Member (2 Counts)
• Resisting/Evading
Elijah Gallegos was criminally charged with:
• Accessory to Kidnapping
• Accessory to Extortion
• Resisting/Evading
