The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is releasing details and video from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Ribault Avenue in the Osceola Forest neighborhood on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The incident details below are preliminary and may evolve as the investigation continues.

Officer A.C. Gaulding was working a traffic deployment in the area when he attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by the suspect, 33-year-old Brandon White. White was slow to stop, driving past several safe places, until he pulled into a driveway. White immediately began firing his handgun at Officer Gaulding, hitting the officer in his foot. Officer Gaulding fired his gun at White as Officer Gaulding moved towards a position of cover. White then grabbed a rifle and attempted to get out of his vehicle. Officer Gaulding again fired his gun, incapacitating White. That’s when additional officers arrived on scene and provided emergency medical care to White. White was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Crime scene detectives determined White was wearing body armor when he shot Officer Gaulding.

The State Attorney’s Office will independently review the incident to assess the legality of the officer’s actions. Once that is complete, JSO will conduct an internal review to ensure the officer acted within policy. Then, a Response to Resistance Board will convene, and the findings will be submitted to the Sheriff for final review. JSO is releasing this in the interest of transparency. Conclusions on the incident remain pending.
