San José Police Department Press Release Re: Jairo Ortiz Arrested for Alleged Shooting Homicide
On April 3, 2025, at approximately 10:24 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a commercial parking lot located in the 1700 block of Berryessa Road for a report of a person down. Upon arrival, Officers found an adult male victim who was not conscious or breathing. Medical personnel began life saving measures on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Medical staff determined the victim had sustained at least one gunshot wound. The suspect had fled the area prior to police arrival.
SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives began a comprehensive investigation and immediately identified a suspect vehicle associated to the crime scene. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the associated residence and during the search, located a person of interest, as well as evidence of the crime.
During the course of the investigation, Detectives determined the person of interest, Jairo Ortiz, was the suspect responsible for the homicide.
On April 4, 2025, Detectives arrested Suspect Jairo in the city of San José and booked him into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This is the City’s 7th homicide of 2025.
