IMPD arrested 23-year-old Jaylan Grimes on Saturday for eight robberies and suspect him in a total of 20 robberies across Indianapolis.
IMPD Covert Robbery detectives arrested Grimes on Sunday following a robbery in the 4100 block of W Washington Street. In December, IMPD detectives began investigating a series of similar armed robberies of individuals, which started in December 2023. The suspect primarily preyed on individuals who were either in their vehicles at their homes or were just arriving home.
The robberies occurred in various locations throughout Indianapolis but focused on the east side and the southwest side.
On Saturday, January 6, IMPD Covert Robbery detectives, with the assistance of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, and IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), located and detained Grimes following a robbery in the 4100 block of East Washington St. Detectives located firearms, cash, and a victim’s wallet inside the vehicle Grimes was driving.
Grimes admitted to his involvement in four robberies Saturday night, one robbery Saturday morning, and three additional robberies. Detectives suspect Grimes is the suspect in 12 additional robberies.
An arrest is merely an accusation and Grimes should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
