Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Press Release Re: Seth Samuel Wilson Shooting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On June 20, 2024, at approximately 12:07 p.m., LVMPD Dispatch received several reports of a male armed with a rifle in an apartment complex located in the 200 block of North 9th Street. The male, who was later identified as 49-year-old Seth Wilson, was heard yelling threats to kill.
Multiple officers arrived on scene, including Officer Matthew Kravetz and Officer Andrew Buckland who began searching for the suspect. Officers determined the male lived in a third-floor apartment.
A sergeant on scene was able to contact Wilson by phone. He created a dialogue with Wilson and instructed him to surrender peacefully. Wilson hung up on the sergeant and minutes later exited the apartment while holding a rifle in his hands with the muzzle pointed toward the ceiling. Officers gave Wilson multiple verbal commands to drop the rifle. Wilson then lowered the rifle and pointed it toward officers. Both Officer Kravetz and Buckland discharged their duty weapons, striking him. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the suspect deceased on scene.
The investigation of this incident remains ongoing. An examination of this incident is being conducted by the LVMPD Critical Incident Review Team. This review focuses on policy, tactics, and training as it relates to this use of force.
