Louisville Metro Police Officer Brandon Haley was shot during a traffic stop in Chickasaw and is now off of a ventilator.
During a routine traffic stop, the rookie officer was hit by gunfire that police say came from a nearby home on Kentucky Street.

Around 2:30 this morning, a 2nd Division officer was conducting a traffic stop in the 4000-block of Kentucky Street. A supporting officer responded as well. While conducting the traffic stop, shots were fired from a nearby home.
The officer was shot in the upper torso area. The supporting officer on scene discharged his weapon. The supporting officer was not injured. Our Hostage Negotiation Team, SWAT, and other support are currently on scene at the house where the shots were fired at the officer.
Our officer is in critical, but stable condition. We are thankful that he survived his injuries, and remain cautiously optimistic. We are grateful to UofL medical staff for their amazing care and treatment.
The officer has been with LMPD for a year-and-a-half, and we are praying for a speedy recovery.
There is body-worn camera footage. Per LMPD protocol, the footage will be released to the public within 10 business days. SWAT, Hostage Negotiation Team, remain on scene around the home where the shots were fired at our officer.
