The Macomb, Ill., police officer who fired a single shot that killed a man, Anthony George and the 4-year-old boy he was holding during a disturbance call will not face charges.

MACOMB, IL – Macomb Police moves forward with Internal Investigation into 3/16/24 Use of Deadly Force
Chief Jeff Hamer acknowledges State’s Attorney Matt Kwacala’s thorough review of the deadly force incident that occurred on 3/16/24 in Macomb.
The Macomb Police Department’s internal investigation is underway. This process determines if the incident was within department policy, outside department policy, or accidental. The course of this investigation also determines training in topics pertinent to the incident.
Although this internal investigation began months ago, the complete Illinois State Police investigation is now being made available to MPD. Command Staff will review the ISP investigative product, review videos, statements, reports, and training records. Once completed, the department will update the community.
The Department intends to release Body Cam video of the incident after communicating with the families of the victims.
Our hearts are with those affected by this tragic incident. We understand families are grieving and the community is mourning. Although we will work diligently on this internal investigation, it is too early to predict a deadline.
Chief Hamer will update the public at regular intervals until the internal investigation is complete.
