Boynton Beach Police Department Press Release Re: Man Shoots Himself During Traffic Stop
On February 27, 2023, at 12:27 A.M., Officer P. Roedel conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Muhannad Ibrahim.
During the traffic stop officers were informed Ibrahim had an active warrant for felony domestic battery by strangulation. Officer Roedel and Officer Chambers attempted to take Ibrahim into custody; however, Ibrahim immediately began to actively resist the officers’ commands.
Officer Roedel removed Ibrahim from the vehicle, at which time Ibrahim is observed (via body-worn camera), retrieving a gun that was concealed within his waistband. Ibrahim then raises the gun to his chin, firing one round.
Ibrahim sustained injuries from one self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Officer Roedel and Officer Chambers were not injured during this incident. Ibrahim is being charged with carrying a concealed firearm, resisting arrest without violence, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
