A man wanted for attempted murder was shot and killed in downtown Orlando by police after he shot at officers, according to the police chief.

Chief Smith Provides an Update Regarding an Officer-Involved Shooting at Orange Avenue and South Lucerne Circle
At approximately 5:55 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle driven by a suspect with warrants for attempted murder and aggravated stalking from an Orange County Sheriff’s case. As officers exited their vehicle, the suspect produced a handgun and fired a round. One officer returned fire.
The suspect is pronounced dead. The identity of the suspect will be provided once next of kin has been notified.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
As with all officer-involved shootings, FDLE is conducting an independent investigation. The officer who returned fire is on administrative leave. Once the FDLE investigation is complete, OPD’s Internal Affairs will conduct an investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation.
