Paul Palafox Shot and Killed by San Antonio Police in Shootout Caught on Camera

Police report that Paul Palafox fired nearly 30 rounds from an AR-15 assault rifle.

San Antonio Police Department Press Release Re: Paul Palafox Fatal Shooting

Consistent with the Department’s Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, the Department, today, released video from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 28th, 2023.

Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:

On March 28th, 2023, at around 2:15 pm, officers were dispatched to a shooting at the 200 block of Essex St. When the officers arrived, they were directed to the suspect’s residence on the 1300 block of S. Mesquite St.

An officer encountered the suspect outside his home, and the suspect fired on the officers. The officers returned fire before taking cover. The suspect entered and exited the house on two occasions, firing at officers while inside the home. He then took a position between two vehicles and continued to engage the officers.

An officer found a location that provided visibility of the suspect and fired a single shot, incapacitating him. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Paul Palafox, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries on March 31st. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.

As with all officer-involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident.
