On June 11, 2024, at 1:10 a.m. in Corona, California, a Riverside County Deputy from the Lake Matthews Sheriff’s Station noticed 32-year-old Eric John Nourani and 30-year-old Jennifer Rose Dobbins behaving unusually. The deputy approached them, but they suddenly ran off, prompting him to pursue them on foot. The pair turned a corner and waited alongside a building wall. When the deputy caught up, Nourani lunged at him, leading to a physical struggle.
During the altercation, Nourani repeatedly instructed Dobbins to “Kill him, kill him” and said, “It’s the devil, kill him.” Dobbins, attempting to intervene, shouted, “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke you,” while kicking the deputy multiple times. In response, the deputy shot Dobbins. Despite being wounded, Nourani urged Dobbins to “Get the gun, get the gun,” though she never did.
The struggle between the deputy and Nourani continued this time over the deputy’s service weapon. The deputy called out to nearby good Samaritans, saying, “Get him. He’s stealing my gun.” The bystanders intervened, helping the deputy gain control of Nourani.
Dobbins received medical attention and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Nourani was arrested and charged with murder (due to Dobbins’ death), attempted murder of a peace officer, mayhem, and resisting an officer with violence. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave, as per standard department policy during the investigation.
