San Antonio Police Critical Incident Video Release: 800 block of E. Rector Drive

Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, this evening SAPD will release video from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on December 3, 2024, at the 800 block of E. Rector Drive.

Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:

An SAPD Officer attempted to contact a male pedestrian near Loop 410 and Jones Maltsberger Rd. when the male fled on foot. The officer ran after the male and the male ended up near a drainage ditch. A nearby officer drove to the 800 block of E. Rector Drive and exited his patrol vehicle near the drainage ditch and issued commands to the male when he observed the suspect holding a gun.

Fearing for the safety of officers nearby, the officer drew his gun and shot at the suspect multiple times. The suspect ran from the officer and the officer ran after him. The officer observed the suspect turn and raise his gun at which time the officer fired several rounds, striking the suspect.

The suspect died on scene from his wounds. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined the suspect shot himself in the head as he was shot by the officer.

No officers or bystanders were injured.

As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this incident.
