San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Hector Cuevas, Jr., Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Traffic Collision While in Pursuit of a Stolen Vehicle

LOCATION: El Evado Road and Seneca Road, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): Ryan Dwayne Turner, Jr., 22-year-old resident of San Bernardino

VICTIM(S): Hector Cuevas, Jr., 36-years-old Sheriff’s Deputy

SUMMARY:

On Monday, March 17, 2025, at about 10:58 a.m., deputies from the Victorville Station observed a stolen vehicle near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road, in Victorville. Deputies attempted a traffic stop but the suspect, Ryan Turner, failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.

During the pursuit, Deputy Hector Cuevas, Jr. was involved in a traffic collision with another vehicle. Cuevas succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female driver of the other vehicle was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Turner stopped the vehicle at El Evado Road and Zuni Lane and fled on foot. Turner was subsequently caught and taken into custody.

The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

UBICACIÓN: El Evado Road y Seneca Road, Victorville

SOSPECHOSO(S): Ryan Dwayne Turner, Jr., residente de San Bernardino, de 22 años

VÍCTIMA(S): Héctor Cuevas, Jr., Agente del Sheriff, de 36 años

RESUMEN:

El lunes 17 de marzo de 2025, aproximadamente a las 10:58 a. m., agentes de la Estación de Victorville observaron un vehículo robado cerca de Mojave Drive y Amargosa Road, en Victorville. Los agentes intentaron detenerlo, pero el sospechoso, Ryan Turner, no cedió el paso y se inició una persecución.

Durante la persecución, el agente Héctor Cuevas, Jr. se vio involucrado en un accidente de tráfico con otro vehículo. Cuevas falleció a causa de sus heridas y fue declarado muerto en el lugar.

La conductora del otro vehículo fue trasladada a un hospital por lesiones leves.

Turner detuvo el vehículo en El Evado Road y Zuni Lane y huyó a pie. Posteriormente, Turner fue capturada y puesta bajo custodia.

El Equipo de Investigación de Accidentes Graves (MAIT) del Sheriff está llevando a cabo la investigación para determinar la causa del accidente.
