San Francisco County Jails 2 and 3 were placed on lockdown over the weekend due to a series of physical assaults against deputies and jail staff by inmates.
According to sheriff officials, since March 29, there have been reports of at least seven staff members injured by inmates, with two suffering serious injuries.
The San Francisco Deputy Sheriff’s Association revealed that nine deputies were attacked by inmates at county jails in the past three weeks. These attacks involved punches to the head, resulting in dislocated shoulders, and one incident on Friday where a deputy was bitten hard enough to break the skin.
In response to the escalating situation, the Association has urged Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, Mayor London Breed, and Board of Supervisor President Aaron Peskin to deploy the state’s National Guard to the prisons to address staff shortages.
