San Jose Police Department Press Release Re: Jesus Casas Arrest
On August 19, 2024, at approximately 4:33 PM, Patrol Officers responded to a suspicious circumstance near the area of Roberts Avenue and Vintage Way. The reporting party called police to report they had located the burned remains of their missing family member at a homeless encampment in the area. When Officers arrived, they located burned human remains and preliminary evidence on scene suggested the victim had been murdered.
SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and began a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the incident. Detectives identified the suspect as Jesus Casas and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
On August 22nd, 2024, while pro-actively patrolling, Officers located the suspect in the city of San José and booked him into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
This was the City’s 21st homicide of 2024.
