This critical incident briefing is intended to provide you with information about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 170 from Natural Bridge Road in the city of Bel-ridge, Missouri. As part of our commitment to transparency, we will show you relevant video footage, evidence, and the law enforcement response to this incident.

St. Louis County Police Department Press Release Re: Je’von Henderson Shooting

Charges Issued in Officer-Involved Shooting on I-170 at Natural Bridge Road

St. Louis County, MO (October 31, 2024): On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspect Je’von Henderson, 30 years of age, of the 9900 block of Sloane Square in St. Louis, Missouri 63134, for Assault First Degree Special Victim, Armed Criminal Action, and Resisting Arrest.

A booking photo of Henderson is not available as he is currently hospitalized. Henderson is being held on $500,000, cash only, no 10%, bond.

Please note, charges are merely an accusation, and Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The probable cause statement reads: Police conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Lexus being operated by the defendant for a license plate violation and excessively tinted windows. During the traffic stop, the officer observed what he believed to be clues of possible intoxication and asked the defendant to exit the vehicle. The officer also placed a tire-deflation device in front of one of the vehicle’s tires. The defendant fled the traffic stop in the vehicle, and the officer pursued. The defendant ultimately crashed his vehicle near the intersection of Natural Bridge and IS 170.

As the officer arrived on scene and attempted to approach the defendant’s vehicle, the defendant pointed a pistol at him and fired the weapon towards the officer. Police returned fire and the defendant was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Police observed a 9mm semiautomatic pistol and an AR-15 style pistol in the front passenger compartment of the vehicle. Police further observed a large amount of suspected marijuana on the floorboard of the vehicle.

St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are leading this investigation.

St. Louis County, MO (October 30, 2024): St. Louis County Police Department Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the ramp to southbound Interstate 170 from Natural Bridge Road in the City of Bel Ridge.

On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 4:30 p.m., a police officer with the City of Breckenridge Hills Police Department conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Calvert Avenue and North Avenue. The driver initially stopped for the officer but shortly thereafter fled the scene. Officers pursued the suspect onto the ramp to southbound Interstate 170. The driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the ramp into a ditch. The driver remained inside the vehicle.

As pursuing officers exited their vehicles, they heard gunshots and saw the driver with a weapon. Officers fired shots at the vehicle. The suspect, an adult male, suffered at least one gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid to the suspect, and he was transported to an area hospital for life-saving treatment.

At least one weapon was located inside the suspect vehicle.

The City of Breckenridge Hills Police Department requested St. Louis County Bureau of Crimes Against Persons assume responsibility for this investigation.

The City of Breckenridge Hills police officer involved in this incident is 33 years of age with 9 years of law enforcement experience.

A City of Woodson Terrace police officer involved in this incident is 30 years of age with 3 years of law enforcement experience.

A second City of Woodson Terrace police officer involved in this incident is 37 years of age with 8 years of law enforcement experience. No officers were injured.
