Novato Police Department Press Release Re: 3 Arrested for Kidnapping from Novato Health Care Facility
On Saturday (2/15), around 11 AM, Novato Police received a report of a kidnapping from a Novato healthcare facility. Witnesses reported that three suspects entered the back of the facility, abducted a patient, and then assaulted a nurse who attempted to stop them. The suspects fled in a vehicle heading towards South Novato Blvd.
Novato Police sent out a “Be On The Lookout” (BOL) broadcast to surrounding agencies and counties to help locate the vehicle involved. Within 20 minutes, a Marin County sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near the Spencer Ave exit on US 101.
Novato Police Officers responded to take custody of the three suspects. The victim was located inside the vehicle and transported to a medical facility as a precaution. The other occupants (matching suspect descriptions) were detained and transported back to the Novato Police Department for interviews with Detectives.
Initial investigation determined the patient was at risk and under a “conservatorship”. A “conservatorship” is a court-ordered arrangement that gives a responsible person or organization the power to manage another person’s finances or personal care. Further investigation revealed that the suspects, who were not the conservators, attempted to fraudulently obtain conservatorship for financial gain by kidnapping the victim.
Arrested:
• Michael Roberts, a 49-year-old Dana Point resident
• Laura Boyle, a 61-year-old Mission Viejo resident
• Paula Burkes, a 57-year-old Mission Viejo resident
The suspects above were arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for several crimes including kidnapping, elder abuse, battery, burglary, and conspiracy.
During the ensuing investigation, Novato Police Detectives identified a fourth suspect as Krysta Boyle, a 38 year-old Mission Viejo resident. The evidence suggests Krysta Boyle conspired with the other suspects to commit this crime. Charges will be requested against Krysta via the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.
